GLOBAL FORUM brings the world's leading specialist in corporative governance to Curitiba
Indian consultant Ram Charan will be the highlight of event promoted by Fiep and partners to be held on June 18-20
Indian consultant Ram Charan, appointed by Fortune magazine as the top specialist in corporate governance will be one of the highlights of the Global Forum Latin America to be held in Curitiba, on June 18-20. The event will gather entrepreneurs, business executives, members of the academia, representatives from the public sector and general society. Listed among the ten major resources for executive development programs by Business Week, Charan has worked behind the scenes at large corporations such as DuPont, General Electric, Ford, Duke Energy, and Verizon, and will talk about the “strategic cooperation challenges for sustainability.”
The Global Forum proposes rethinking the role of business education with a focus on sustainability. The meeting is promoted by Unindus – The Corporate University of the Federation of Industries of the State of Paraná (FIEP), in partnership with SESI – Industrial Social Service. Online registration at www.globalforum.com.br.
The purpose of the Global Forum Latin America is to encourage shared reflection on ways in which to transfer values and tools to students in order to enable them to act according to sustainability requirements.
“In addition to economic responsibility, leaders and executives should also be socially responsible, good citizens, and enterprising. Today, financial profit is not enough; corporations must commit to environmental, social, and sustainability issues,” says Rodrigo da Rocha Loures, president of FIEP. “The responsible professional is committed to social and environmental issues, capable of facing the new challenges of sustainable development, with an understanding of the full scope of sustainability, while at the same time capable of fostering its practice. He is directly responsible for future changes and, more so, for the benefits derived from breaking these patterns,” he explains.
Program - The theme of the opening speach will be “Education Principles for Responsible Administration and Management”, by Jonas Haertle, from the UN, and by Carlos Bertero, president of the National Graduate Administration Programs and Research Association (Anpad).
Oscar Motomura, founder and CEO of the Amana-Key Group – a worldwide center of management excellence headquartered in São Paulo – will talk about strategic alliances among corporations, universities, and the general society in cooperation toward sustainability, on Thursday, June 19. Motomura began his career in Brazil, at a multinational finance corporation, and reached a top position in the company’s high management, at age 26. He founded his own company – the kernel of the Amana-Key Group – at age 28. At present, he is considered one of the country’s most creative strategy specialists.
On Friday, June 20, attention is drawn to the talk “The Possible Dream: Sustainability as an Opportunity for Business in the 21th Century,” with the presence of Hector Nuñez, president of Wal-Mart/Brazil; Antonio de Araujo Freitas, from the Nacional Graduate Administration Programs Association; and Ronald Fry, from the Weatherhead Management School Case Western Reserve University.
Background History - Conceive from the BAWB – Business as an Agent of World Benefit Movement and promoted by the Case Western Reserve University’s Business School, the first Global Forum brought together 400 business leaders and representatives from the academia from 40 different countries, in addition to one thousand individuals participating over the Internet. Held in Cleveland, in 2006, the event led to the identification of cooperation areas between the business world and the academia, targeting the promotion of effective actions toward global sustainable development. The results of this Latin America edition will be taken to the World Global Forum scheduled for 2009, in the USA. |
