Environment promotes world-wide Seminaries at the same time of Biodiversity and Biosafety Conferences (COP8 and MOP3)
The Secretariat of the Environment and Hydrous Resources, through the Paraná Biodiversity Program, will perform Technician Seminaries to the participants of the world-wide conferences of the UNO on Biodiversity and Biosafety, that begins next Monday (13) and goes on up to 30th March, in Curitiba.
“The program executes sectorial actions that aim to match the agricultural production with the environmental conservation and the biodiversity corridors construction. With this approach we could not leave to offer to the participants of Conferences the chance to technical debates subjects that directly relates biodiversity and biosafety”, affirmed the Secretary of the Environment and Hidro Resources, Luiz Eduardo Cheida.
Events – At the same time to the accomplishment of 3a Meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (MOP3), will be promoted the seminaries “Living Modified Organisms and the Precaution Principles”, on March 12 and “Connecting the Conservation of Biodiversity and Agriculture”, on March 18. Both seminars will have foreign panel members that will bring information similar programs that are developed in other countries. These two events will have open participation to the public.
In the period where Eighth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention of Biological Diversity (COP8), from March20 to March31, the Secretariat will promote, on March20, the seminary “Biodiversity and Engineering: The Energy Question”; on March22, there will be a meeting directed to the secretaries of the environment of the cities attended by the program. There are 63 localities, where three biodiversity corridors cross: Araucária, Iguaçu-Paraná and Great Caiuá-Island.
Still on Marh22 there will be carried the seminar “Sustainability in Mixing Ombrófila Forest”, that will approach the Araucária forest. On March23 it will be promoted again “Connecting the Conservation of Biodiversity and Agriculture”; on March 24, the subject will be “Water, Biodiversity and Life: Perspectives, an international Approach”.
There will be carried visitants to the exposition “Biodiversity and Assets”, that it will spread projects and products developed by industries, considering criteria of conservation of biodiversity for its manufacturing.
A visitation is programmed to the “Biodiversity and Agriculture - Sustainability” Seminar and a debate talking about the experiences of the program, as the implantation of the agroecological modules, that stimulates the conversion of irregular properties in ecologically correct properties, and the actions of environmental education developed by by the Secretariat that already enabled 2,5 thousand people only in the year 2005.
After the meeting, the participants will be able to visit the exposition of the COP8 settled at Expotrade Center, that presents some of the main world-wide initiatives on Biodiversity.
Paraná Biodiversity - the Paraná Biodiversity Program consists of the recovery of biodiversity through the formation of “ecological corridors” or “Biodiversity corridors”.
These corridors are being formed through the connection of remainders forest such as the Legal Reserves, Units of Conservation (state, municipal and federal parks), Areas of Permanent Preservation (riparian forest buffers, hillsides and headlands), Private Reserves of Natural Patrimony (RPPN), Ecological Stations among others. The objective, that makes possible the flow of animals and vegetables, is to adjust the practical country properties to the ecologically healthful ones.About U$32 millions are being invested in the Program with financial support of the GEF - Funding, through the World Bank. The work is considered by the GEF as a pioneering experience in the world.
