Londrina’s Botanical Garden Project is presented to the Environment Ministry
The Londrina’s Botanical Garden, which will be officially launched on this Thursday (30), by the Governor Mr. Roberto Requião, was presented in the last weekend during the side-event activities to the ONU’s Eighth Ordinary Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity(COP 8).
The Londrina’s Botanical Garden will be the first in Paraná regulated by the Environment Ministry and its implementation is being coordinated by the Environment and Water Resources State Secretariat. “This will be the first Botanical Garden indeed from Paraná, because it is being built within new rules from Environment Ministry which requires several criteria in order to be approved, like research and education” said the Environment and Water Resources Secretary Mr. Luiz Eduardo Cheida.
According with the Secretary, the Botanical Garden will be an important reference center for botanical research in the country and of Mercosul. “It will have a complete structure for courses on environmental education, landscaping, gardening and courses in botanical area. It will be also very important to the preservation stimulation and to the research on forest native species of the state”; has highlighted Mr. Cheida.
The responsible for the project analysis at the Environment Ministry and also coordinator of Rio de Janeiro’s Botanical Garden, Mr. Claudio Nicoletti de Fraga, has spotted that, the project, presented by Paraná is one of the most advanced and modern of the country. In Brasil there is about 30 Botanical gardens.
“The project of Londrina’s Botanical Garden is far beyond and it follows the determinations of the Ministry, which stimulates the transformation of spaces that could be degraded in conservation areas” has said. “Besides that, is amazing the architectonical and biological beauty of the project. Paraná is congratulated”, completed. One of the most impressive aspects which caught Mr. Fraga’s attention was the presence of many hydric resources at the site. “One point in favor to Paraná’s government. The presence of waters enriches the project”; evaluated.
Investments - All in all, it will be invested R$ 8 millions on the works, being R$ 1.5 million from a compensatory measure. The measure was foreseen in fine due an environmental accident with fuels, at Londrina. The other R$ 5.5 million are being destined by the government, through the State Fund for the Environment (FEMA).
The Londrina’s Botanical Garden will be built in and area of 110 square meters. Its 70 hectares in areas ceased/given for use by the Agronomic Institute of Paraná, 20 hectares given by Londrina’s Marista School and more than 26 hectares donated by six families.
